WZSEXCVRL.gif (259541 bytes)White Zombie had an impact on many of the metal bands that immediately followed them , making a mark on the evolution of metal from the 1980’s to the 1990’s. Ivan’s goal is to be true to his vision as an artist and he thrust himself into every project he embarks on with 110% commitment. As a drummer, he is known for his unique style and heavy hitting beats. Ivan grew up listening to a variety of music that ranged from disco to hard rock, world music to speed metal. Drummers that shaped Ivan’s style were John Bonham (Led Zeppelin), Danny Schuler (Biohazard), Jabo Starks and Clyde Stubblefield (James Brown), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Greg Errico (Sly & the Family Stone), Terry Bozzio (Missing Persons), percussionist Peter Ulrich (Dead Can Dance) , and drum samples on The Beastie Boys records.

After seven years of recording and touring with White Zombie, Ivan decided to diversify his skills by enrolling and completing the intensive program at The Percussion Institute of Technology. This education helped broaden his style and gave him experience studying under world renowned percussionists. During this time he also dedicated himself to learning about production as well as studio drumming. Through this endeavor, Ivan created and built, Burningsound Studio. Burningsound is a recording studio with state-of-the-art digital equipment, offering an intimate and professional recording experience. The creation of the studio enabled him to produce, engineer and record with many artists including; L7, Monte Pittman (Madonna), David Lewis Yewdall (Starship Troopers, The Fifth Element, The Thing, Christine, Escape From New York), Tommy Victor (Prong), Paul Raven (Killing Joke, Prong), Jack Off Jill, Society 1, and many other artists. Ivan also pursued his talents as a filmmaker starting “de Prume Productions” and creating two independent short films.

In July of 2003, after exploring many of his passions, Ivan decided to return to his first love by forming a new band, “Healer”. He began composing songs with multi-talented musicians to forge his musical vision into the sonic masterpiece that would become the band’s debut release, “Awakening”. Joining de Prume in the creation of “Awakening’s” unique sound are: vocalist, guitar and bass player Scott von Heldt (Kurai/Theater of Madness); violinist and yailly tambur player Martin St-Pierre (Cirque du Soleil); vocalist Kate St-Pierre (The Los Angeles Opera) ; and guitarist Andrew Kline (Strife).

There is an energy that is unique in Healer’s “Awakening”. Colorful percussive rhythms, two soul-stirring vocalists and a soaring violin enmesh with an insistent backline to combine into a seamless soundscape of exotic Middle Eastern melodies with heavy overtones. The diverse backgrounds that contribute to the sound of “Healer” come together in an amazingly creative musical journey.
